Full description

Hop on for a ride through time with the Historic Wolf Tree Turn Train Ride, departing from Willits for a scenic expedition that promises more than just views. Over two hours and 16 miles, this round trip ascends to the line's zenith—1,740 feet above sea level—before diving through the shadowy depths of Tunnel #2 and emerging into the lush embrace of the Noyo River Canyon. It's not just a train ride; it's a voyage to the heart of Mendocino County's natural grandeur, where ancient redwoods stand as silent sentinels of history.

As the train snakes its way up and then down into the verdant canyon, a brief pause at Crowley offers a moment with the majestic Wolf Tree, a living legend named for its domineering presence in the forest. This is where nature's artistry is on full display, and passengers are invited to disembark and soak in the awe-inspiring scenery. Riding aboard one of the historic Diesel-Electric engines adds a touch of nostalgia to the adventure, blending the thrill of exploration with the charm of yesteryear. This journey is more than a trip; it's a chance to witness the raw beauty and storied past of Northern California's landscapes.

Bringing our dogs along made this adventure unforgettable! Even though it started raining, the cozy, enclosed train car kept us dry and comfortable. To our delight, the weather cleared up at the pavilion, bathing us in sunshine. It's an incredibly pet-friendly experience and absolutely delivers value for the money. A dream come true for our bucket list!
